LG launches G6 in India priced at Rs 51,990: Features, specifications and more

Image
Announced during the Mobile World Congress 2017 in February this year, LG has now launched the G6, its latest flagship smartphone, in India. The launch comes just five days after Samsung introduced its Galaxy S8 and S8+ in the country. The LG G6 comes with a price tag of Rs 51,990 and will be sold on Amazon India, as well as offline stores, starting April 25. Ditching the modular functionality of its predecessor, this one is a single piece of hardware with IP68 certification for being dust and water resistant (for up to 1.5m and up to 30 minutes). It flaunts a 5.7 inch display with 80 per cent body-to-screen ratio. The quad high definition (QHD) display at the front has Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The rear, too, is made of glass, which has been protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Sculpted from aluminium and glass, the smartphone features rounded corners and narrow bezels. LG also claims that the G6 has passed 14 different military-standard 810G tests, which...

How to get a verified account on Twitter

Twitter has a built-in social hierarchy. There are those with blue tick marks next to their name, and those without blue ticks. The blue tick denotes a verified account, meaning this is a real person and is whoever their description says it is. Verification was necessitated by the number of phoney and fake accounts on Twitter, which were often mistaken for the real person. Checking if you're tweeting to the right person is one of the basics of using Twitter without screwing up. But what started out as a way to help readers sort the real from the fake has turned into an ego exercise. The blue tick mark has become a social status in the world of Twitter. A coveted award, bestowed upon worthy Twitterati by the good folks at Twitter themselves. As journalist Mike  Rundle wrote when he got his verification: In the world of Twitter, being 'Verified' is the closest thing there is to gaining a knighthood. The program is theoretically restricted to "highly sough...

How to record Android smartphone screen

There might've been times when a friend or family member asked you for help regarding configuring something on their Android smartphone(s). Maybe, they are not well-versed in technology, maybe they have shifted to Android from another mobile operating system (e.g. iOS) and are thus unfamiliar with it; the reason could be anything. Now, if your friend or family member handed over their smartphone to you so that you can help them out, it'd be easy to do that. But what if they don't want to give their smartphone, or are at some place other than yours? Wouldn't it be great if you could record the entire troubleshooting procedure, step-by step, on your smartphone and then send it as a video to them? And if you wondering this is possible? Yes, it is. You can create a video recording (or screencast) of your Android smartphone's screen, as well as all the actions performed on it (e.g. taps, menu selections), directly from the device itself. All you need is a free ap...

Here's how much a Samsung Galaxy S8 is manufactured for

Image
Samsung Galaxy S8's manufacturing cost revealed Samsung Galaxy S8, which recently launched in India, costs Rs 57,900 (MOP of base model) in the country. Needless to say, this is not the actual cost Samsung incurs to manufacture each Galaxy S8 unit. Companies always sell their products at higher prices to generate profit, and the prices include other factors such as marketing costs and taxes as well. So how much profit Samsung stands to earn on each Galaxy S8 it sells? IHS Markit seems to have the answer. According to the report, the total bill of materials (BOM) for the 64GB storage variant of the Samsung Galaxy S8 comes out to be around $301.60 (roughly Rs 19,500). After adding the manufacturing cost of $5.9 (roughly Rs 381), the final amount comes to $307.50 (about Rs 19,900). It has been mentioned that this amount is $43.34 (roughly Rs 2,800) more than what it took Samsung to manufacture the Galaxy S7. The S7 edge was manufactured at $36.29 (roughly Rs 2,300)...

How to Enable Flash in Chrome for Specific Websites

If you’re a Chrome user, which you should be, you probably have noticed that Flash is blocked by default in the browser. Google does not like Flash because of the major security flaws inherent in Flash and therefore does everything in its power to force you not to use Flash. The only problem is there are still a lot of sites that use Flash. None of the major sites you visit every day like Facebook, Instagram, etc. use it, but a lot of smaller and older sites just haven’t bothered to switch to HTML 5. For example, I am taking a Cisco course at my local community college and in order to complete the assignments, I have to log into Cisco’s NetAcademy website. The problem is that some of the questions require Flash to view and answer. If you do a quick Google search for enabling Flash in Chrome, you’ll see a lot of articles telling you to download Flash from Adobe’s website and install it (which won’t work) or to open a Chrome tab and go to chrome://plugins (which also won’t wor...

Top Ways to Extend Your iPad’s Battery Life

Even though I don’t use my iPad nearly as much as I did a few years back, it’s still comes in handy on long trips or when I need to distract my kids for a little while. The longer the device can last, the better for me. Apple has a specific time duration that each iPad model should last based on regular usage, but actually reaching that value is quite a task. The reason behind the disconnect is the software. Even though Apple creates great hardware, their software is sorely lacking. iOS, in my opinion, has been getting buggier and slower in each new version. It’s amazing to me that my 64 GB iPhone is constantly running out of space even though I’m using iCloud for storing everything. In addition, there are a whole bunch of iPad models out there right now all with different versions of iOS installed, which is problematic. My iPad Air 2 can be updated to iOS 10, but my iPad 2 can only be updated to iOS 9 and will probably be stuck there forever. In this post, I’ll list out as man...

HTC U maybe the second smartphone in the world to support Bluetooth 5.0

Image
HTC will launch its 2017 flagship phone, aka the HTC U, on May 16. Ahead of its scheduled unveiling in Taiwan, a new Bluetooth.org listing has confirmed that the HTC U will ship with the next-generation Bluetooth 5.0 standard. Samsung's recently launched Galaxy S8 (and Galaxy S8+) is notably the world's first smartphone to support Bluetooth 5.0, and chances are the HTC U could well be the second in line. Bluetooth 5.0 is successor to Bluetooth 4.2 and guarantees up to four times wider range than its predecessor. At the same time, the new wireless standard allows twice the data transfer speed and offers the ability to simultaneously connect two sets of wireless devices. As for the upcoming HTC U, the headline feature of HTC's phone is said to be Edge Sense, a touch sensitive outer frame that would react to specific actions allowing users to open an app or launch the camera app directly. Whether or not it would see a design change -- from the incumbent U Ultr...

Tips to take stunning photos using smartphone

Image
Smartphone cameras have seen dramatic improvements, but technology alone won't produce shots that grab attention. That's where the human eye comes in. Here are eight tips to keep in mind when composing that shot, whether of family during the holidays or sights during a vacation. You don't need to own a fancy camera or mess with manual controls. What's the subject? Give people something to latch onto when viewing your photo. As a rule of thumb, close-ups are better. At a party, for instance, avoid wide shots of random people mingling in a room, as the room becomes the subject - and that's boring. Instead, get close-ups of the guest or two who's laughing or singing. The photo is now about people having fun at a party. People mingling can still be part of the shot, but in the background, to give people a sense the party's well attended. The same principle applies to parades: It's better to home in on one or two drummers than on the ent...
